Bristol - 1653 entire letter sent from Whitehall to William Sargeant at Bristol appointing him to the position of Clerk of the Chequer to the frigate building at Bristol. Letter signed George Monch (later the first Duke of Albemarle) who was appointed by Cromwell to a General of the Fleet in the Dutch war. No postal markings but has naval commissioners seal. Heavy foxing but clearly legible.
